Proof that the recent overturn of gay marriage ban has not affected the political risk for our city leaders, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa officiated his first same sex marriage of his close friend- Hollywood Academy Award winning producer Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Pushing Daisies, the upcoming Harvey Milk film) with his partner, art consultant Gabriel Catone.
Photo: Lawrence K. Ho / Los Angeles Times
Promising that he vowed to "officiate as many weddings as possible", he joined other prominent political leaders- including trailblazer San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to join the movement- so to speak and support hundreds of LGBT citizens of the state to have the legal right to get married.
The ceremony was briefly interrupted by this woman who called herself "The Angel of Trinity", spoke to the podium and went on to warn that such unions would invite earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes. Yes, apparently, the union of two people who love each other unconditionally would create havoc to earth...in the meantime, divorces and Jerry Springer antics didn't shook the earth for years. Funny.
According to LA Times, the interruption "added spice" to the ceremony. "It doesn't spoil our day. It doesn't
take away our joy....and it certainly
doesn't change the fact that we are legally married in the state of
California." Way to go, Bruce!
We hope that more Hollywood producers/actors/directors would get married soon and we wish them all our best wishes for the sake of equality! Please support the VOTE NO on MARRIAGE AMENDMENT this coming November and continue to fight for equal human rights!

Last Wednesday, something magical truly happened. Never in the many years that we would have witnessed something so profound and moving that it defied words and expectations.
But this one event is a historical event by any definition.
Abbeys in West Hollywood-yes, the bastion of nightlife in West Hollywood for years became the truly hotspot this night as Grey Anatomy's TR KNIGHT hosted the LOVE and PRIDE ceremony. The event, witnessed by JUDY SHEPARD of MATTHEW SHEPARD FOUNDATION and officiated by none other than West Hollywood's mayor JEFFREY PRANG, is by itself one of the record books. It was a largely symbolic ceremony to renew vows amongst our LGBT couples in recognition of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the ban on gay marriage. DIVA was involved in the ceremony by virtue of inviting its roster of DIVA artists to be "celebrity witnesses". The participants/ couples all wore jewelry pendants designed by UDI BEHR for the LOVE AND PRIDE.com., where proceeds from the jewelry sales goes towards The Matthew Shepard Erase Hate Foundation for LGBT equality.
Repeat this again if you will and wonder....JUDY SHEPARD and TR KNIGHT at West Hollywood's THE ABBEY and that by itself is something everyone would ponder about in years to come.
Back to the ceremony...
The event took an even more historical meaning with the appearance of talk show host JAY LENO- himself a subject of criticism from the gay community for his remarks on his show making jokes about the gays and asking Ryan Phillippe for his "gayest look". But that cynicism all went out the door as Jay committed himself to the cause (he hailed from Massachusetts, the only other state who legalized gay marriage in the country), expressing that "the sky didn't fall down in the state" when his state issued same sex marriage licenses. Good for you, Jay!
In the meantime, TR KNIGHT was hounded by reporters from media outlets if this ceremony was a precursor to his marriage plans to current boyfriend MARK CORNELSEN from ACCESS HOLLYWOOD and ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT. The always humble out star kept his composure throughout the ceremony and even managed to stay at THE ABBEY long enough even after most of the guests have already left the venue.
Among the DIVA celebrities in the audience who act as witnesses to our committed couples include Reichen Lehmkuhl and Ryan Barry, Bruce Vilanch, Darryl Stephens (Noah's Arc), Charlie David (Dante's Cove), Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye), Eduardo Xol, Paige Hemmis and Michael Moloney (ABC TV Extreme Makeover Home Edition), Dan Pintauro (Who's The Boss), Michelle Clunie and Thea Gill (Queer As Folk), Ross The Intern Mathews (who still worked for Jay Leno at Tonight Show), Kristen Henton (Days of our Lives), Carolyn Hennessy (General Hospital), Academy Award nominee Sally Kirkland, David Dean Botrell (Boston Legal), and David Moretti (The Lair).
The gays and ladies came out in droves in both the pre party for Sex and the City hosted by DIVA and New Line Cinema last Saturday May 24th, as well as the opening weekend (May 30th).
We all know New York can't be beat in terms of capturing the essence of the movie, but Los Angeles went all out at Here Lounge as Paul Nicholls and Jeffrey Sanker's Destination New York proved just that- a microcosm of fashion, style and the gay mafia in this side of the town.
Thanks to the overwhelming support of our committee hosts, sponsors (The Advocate and Gay Wired) and community collaborator Out @ WBS, the DIVA hosted event was packed with the most diverse pool of Angelenos getting their free cosmos (well at least for 2 hours worth), some giveaways and fabulous raffle items (free trip to New York City, Jimmy Choos certificate, a complete SATC box set and more!).
Among the revelers were Lance Bass, Katy (I Kiss The Girl) Perry, Rami Kashou of Project Runway, JP Calderon (Survivor), Ross the Intern, Janice Dickinson models and much much more gay mafiosos.
Here are some of the photos captured by our amazing photographers Brian Putnam, Tony Di Maio and Lance Perkins.
The crazy long line formed even before 8 pm opening. Lance Bass clearly in sync with the fashionista crowd. Even the staff was in full NYC mode. The packed bar. Everybody wants to try on Choos. JP Calderon, his boyfriend and the cast of Bravo Flip Out. Rami Kashou (right) represented LA fashion at its finest.

Last April 30, DIVA hosted the packed
CD release party for MADONNA's most anticipated album follow up to Confessions on A Dance Floor, HARD CANDY. While M was not there (she was actually in NYC performing at Roseland to 3,000 adoring fans), our INDUSTRY mixer that night at O BAR did not disappoint at all LGBT industry attendees.
The boys who came at the event included Bravo Workout's Jesse Brune, Aman Chaudhary, Hector Monserratte, Keoki Tavares, Mr. Gay LA Elliott Elsner, our cute boo Anthony Fagiano, Christopher Short, Matheu Brooks of IN Magazine, Woody Woodbeck, Kevin Barry, Josh Smoots, Instinct Magazine's Thomas Jarboe, Vincent Vigil, Onch Movement (who gave the DIVA the fabulous Hard Candy inspired jewelry), Jovy Janolo, Gaetano Jones and more! There were plenty of support from the women at the night too, thanks to our friends at Women In Film so it really became an industry event for everyone!
Here are some pictures from the event taken from our camera and our resident photographer Brian Putnam. More pictures and blog can be found at Aman About Town blog.
